What Do I Want To Cook?
Japanese Food

🍳✨ “A Taste of Home: My Tamagoyaki Story”
by Yui, your Japanese kitchen bestie
Konnichiwa! 🌸 I’m Yui — a girl with a heart full of dreams and a kitchen full of warmth. Ever since I was little, I’ve believed that food is a gentle way to say “I care about you.” That's why, every morning, I wake up early to prepare something small but special for those I love. 💕
The first dish I ever learned from my obaachan (grandma) was Tamagoyaki — Japanese rolled omelette. It may look simple, but each golden layer holds a memory, a smile, and a sprinkle of love.
I still remember the first time I tried to make it on my own. The egg stuck to the pan, my roll was uneven, and I cried in frustration... 😭 But Grandma just giggled softly and said “Yui-chan, a crooked tamagoyaki still tastes sweet if you made it with love.”
Now, I roll the egg slowly… layer by layer… thinking about how the soft, sweet flavor always comforts someone who’s had a long day. I add a little dash of soy sauce, a tiny bit of mirin, and just a whisper of dashi. And when I cut it into little golden pillows and pack it neatly into a bento box, it feels like I’m wrapping a hug in food form. 🍱💛
Sometimes, I walk past the park and see a student sitting on the bench, eating alone. I imagine sneaking a warm slice of tamagoyaki into their bento. Wouldn’t that make their day just a bit brighter?
Cooking Japanese food isn’t just about following steps — it’s about sharing a piece of your soul. Whether it’s miso soup on a rainy day, onigiri for your best friend, or a sweet roll of tamagoyaki made just for you… every dish has a story to tell.
So, if you ever feel homesick, heartbroken, or just hungry for comfort, come join me in the kitchen. I’ll have the pan warmed, the rice steamed, and a story to share. 💗Itadakimasu~ 🍙✨

Yui
